Remember when Tanner called Rinne the worst goalie in the league? I member. He'll probably still stand by it too, because of some made-up internet stats

See if any of their teams win the cup and give it to that guy!

Rinne deserves the trophy this year. If Fleury had started more games, he's probably in the conversation as well. Rinne played behind a diminished defense this year & has vastly improved his high danger save % and in-close goaltending. That's pretty impressive for a 35-year-old guy.

I think Rinne was a bit overrated in the past because he had such a stifling defense playing in front of him. They crowded the lanes and made all the shots come from the points & he has a good glove.

But this year was totally different & the defense in front of him is talented offensively but not nearly as resistant to scoring.

Rinne was in decline for years and was extremely overrated. That's not just me, that's pretty much a consensus among the non-msm hockey community of statistically informed individuals.

He has a great year and deserves the Vezina, no doubt. His return to elite status was extremely unlikely, but good for him.

Also, Adam deserves credit for his hilarious write up.

"Plus...spelling his name is simply easier. Nobody wants "skiy" with an i and y or "byuck" on a trophy. That's ridiculous."

Even if that's a joke, it's a terrible one. Wow man.

As a person with a last name that is similar in difficulty to spell/pronounce, I chuckled. Grow up

So, the 3 goalies nominated are from 3 powerhouse teams

Should be Fleury. Ya, he missed some games but look at his record and numbers compared to his backups. And as good as Vegas did, they are in no way a powerhouse team. Flower carried that team for long stretches and is a major reason why they are where they are

Fleury, Bobrovsky, Andersen, Gibson - no shortage of good candidates.

I would have went Rinne, Gibson, Bobrovsky/Andersen.

It doesn't matter how much better Fleury is than his backups. That has nothing to do with his play on the ice. I wouldn't be so quick to exclude Vegas from "powerhouse" team consideration. They scored more goals than the Predators, and had more points than all but 4-5 teams. Plus, they just swept their first round series.

I think if he started another 15-20 games, he would be a finalist. He's had a great year. Nothing against Fleury, but he wasn't the best goalie in the league this year.

I just think Rinne deserves this award as a participation trophy. He has been in that weird "second tier" of starting goalies for a long time and much maligned online due to his salary.

Good thing you aren't voting, because that is not how awards are supposed to work.

Yup! Well said. I was the second poster here, but first to vote for Fleury. Those who write about hockey instead of play, havenā€™t a clue. They love advanced stats and numbers, but miss the mark on the obvious. No way the Knights win the division or even make the playoffs, let alone win their first round without Fleury standing on his head!
